Medicines Management & Workplace Competency
From medicines training to medicines competence.
About the course
Learning that makes
a practical difference.
Medication administration is one of the highest-risk activities undertaken in adult social care.
A training certificate alone does not demonstrate that a member of staff can administer medicines safely in practice. Staff must understand their responsibilities and be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for the medicines tasks they perform.
This course combines medicines knowledge with practical scenarios and a structured approach to workplace competency assessment.

The benefit to your service
This programme supports services to move from “Our staff completed medication training” to “We can demonstrate that our staff are competent to manage medicines safely.”
Read the course introduction
When we speak to care providers about medicines, one of the most important questions is not simply, ‘Have your staff completed medication training?’
The stronger question is, ‘How do you know they are competent?’
Can they safely use the MAR? Do they know what to do when a medicine is missing, refused or omitted? Do they understand PRN medicines? Would they recognise a medication error, and do they know what happens next?
CQC guidance expects providers to have a formal process for assessing medicines competence and to review learning needs following medicines incidents.
Our Medicines Management and Workplace Competency programme therefore goes beyond classroom knowledge. We combine practical scenarios with structured competency assessment so that managers have stronger evidence that staff can apply their learning safely.
It is about reducing medicines risk while giving managers greater confidence in the people they authorise to administer medicines.
